What are the sworn translations? JuridConsult’s sworn translators will translate any of your official documents. In order to stay in a country overseas, you may require documents issued in your country of birth. These documents must be translated into the official language of the country in question. In the Netherlands, public authorities issue documents in Dutch but occasionally in English, German and French as well. JuridConsult teams up with court approved translators to translate your documents to different languages.
Sworn translations into different languages
A sworn translation is a translation of an official document. Official documents include birth certificates, marriage certificates and higher education diplomas. A document will only be legally acknowledged provided it has been translated by a sworn translator, including the translator’s final statement, an official stamp or signature.

Sworn translation of an official document
Regular documents are expected to have the layout permitted by the law of the country concerned and are the following:
- Passport;
- Driving license;
- Residence permit;
- Certificate from the municipality (Gemeente / Personal Records Database (in Dutch: BRP)), such as birth/death certificate, marriage/divorce certificate;
- Extract from the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (Kamer van Koophandel);
- Extract from the Dutch Tax Authorities (Belastingdienst);
- Certificate of Good Conduct / Police Clearance Certificate (Verklaring Omtrent gedrag or simply VOG);
- Higher education diplomas (without a list of grades or ant other inserts).
Translating exceptional documents
Any documents that have not been issued in the permitted form are referred to as exceptional documents. Such as powers of attorney, deeds of incorporation, prenuptial agreements, contracts, correspondences and other documentation of a legal, economic, technical and medical nature. When will you be needing a sworn translator?
In order to translate your official documents, you will need a sworn translator. A sworn translator has the authority to provide official translations of certified documents. Certified documents include passports, driver’s licenses, residence permits, extracts from the Personal Records Database, extracts from the Chamber of Commerce, extracts from the Dutch Tax Authorities (Belastingdienst) and Certificates of Conduct (VOG). The rules for this have been laid down.
